Jivo Technology sponsored Lucan F.C. this year to support the local club and team and spirit of the community.

Lucan FC is one of the most established clubs in the area of West Dublin. It recently acquired a top class club house after years of fundraising and dedication of its members to raise funds and promote local interest and support.

They were league champions two seasons ago and achieved a promotion to the top division of UCL Premiership this season.

The squad of 20, managed by Tony Blount and coached by Pat O’Toole, plays league matches on a weekly basis and is currently ranked in the top four this season.

Tony Blount commented “the support of Jivo” – a leading Consumer Electronics Brand “ has allowed us to kit out the team and we were delighted to receive this generous sponsorship”.

Michelle McCarthy, Brand Manager for Jivo remarks “the Jivo Brand is based on quality and interesting consumer products and we are delighted to associate the Jivo name with such a successful and upcoming team as Lucan FC.”

GADGET of the week, Sunday Business Post, June 3 2007.

It was slightly off- putting to hear the online description for Irish- owned company Jivo’s latest product as a “Class- D amplifier”. Luckily this proved merely to be bad press.

Juicy Tunes’ primary concern is for iPod’s, the only music players which will stand up in the speakers and , crucially, charge while playing. This will prove a godsend to owners of the newer iPod’s, as thanks to Apples Techno=stinginess, mains chargers are no longer being supplied with iPod’s as standard.

But perhaps the greatest strength of Juicy Tunes is its versatility. It can play music from mobile phones by Sony Ericsson, Nokia and Samsung, and from pretty much any other audio source (through a 3.5mm jack connection). However, owners of other brand MP3 players should probably opt for a more specific speaker system, such as Creative’s Playdock Z500 or iRiver’s H10 speakers, for the charging feature and the aesthetics of docking the device.

But now for the reason we’re all here: the sound quality. I can assure you that 3 watts is not as meagre as it sounds, considering you can buy guitar amplifiers with a output of just 2 watts. The test model had superb sound and, better still, there was no distortion at top volume ( when playing from the mains, some distortion occurs when nearing the end of the battery’s life).

But there versatile speakers for your iPod, mobile phone, CD player or laptop and take them anywhere with 4 AA batteries.

Price €60 from 02 Stores.

The popularity of personal mobile music players has meant that there are millions of headphones out there. Unless you sport a large pair that cover your ears and can't be carried easily in a pocket, you will have the smaller bud type. These are easily broken and you may need to replace them, or just want something better.

Small earphones usually come in two basic types. The ones that rest in the outer ear or those that insert into the auditory canal. The latter type have some advantages. They don't easily drop out, they block off much of the surrounding noise and other people don't get the dubious benefit of your personal concert.

These Jivo earphones are the latter type. They come with three different sized rubber tips to suit most size ears and are comfortable to wear. The earphone wires are offset so the main wire sits more comfortably to the left. They do indeed cut out ambient noise and you can get then to an uncomfortably high volume.

They are available in black, or for the fashion conscious amongst you, white.

In use I found the stereo separation to be good and volume levels would go uncomfortably high. The sound quality was, however, set towards the bass. The mid range was blurred and treble was faint. However, these are low cost items and you'd not expect top quality.
